Basic 3D Geometric Shapes

25 solids at the same scale: cube, sphere, hemisphere, cylinder, cone and cone frustum, tube, tetrahedron, prisms and pyramids with triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon and star bases, and hollow and rounded cubes.

Children sort and name them and count faces, edges and vertices; older students compare prisms with pyramids and check Euler's formula.

1. Print the set; spheres may need a brim.
2. Sort them: which roll, which stack, which have only flat faces?
3. Count faces, edges and vertices in a table and look for the pattern F + V − E = 2.
