Clinometer for Measuring Heights

About this print
A sturdy, support-free clinometer made by a teacher for project-based trigonometry. Sight the top of a tree or building, read the angle, measure your distance, and calculate the height.
It saves the lesson time usually spent taping straws to protractors, so it goes into the measuring.

Printing and using it
- Print it; you also need about 15 cm of string and a small weight (a nut).
- Thread the string through the centre hole from the back and loop it over the peg.
- Outside: measure the angle to the top of a flagpole and the distance to it; height = distance × tan(angle) + eye height.
