About this print

A globe on a stand with a slice cut away to show the inside of the Earth: crust, mantle and core. Made for 5 to 6 colours: land, water, snow and each layer.

Use it for continents and oceans, and for the structure of the Earth, plate tectonics and why volcanoes and earthquakes happen where they do.

Printing and using it

  1. Start from the PrusaSlicer project (3MF). If you load the STLs one by one, the order in the list matters: "land" at the bottom, "fill color" above it.
  2. Without a multi-colour printer, print in one colour and paint the layers.
  3. Students name each layer, say whether it is solid or liquid, and estimate how thick it is compared with the radius.
