About this print

A real human thigh bone, from a museum 3D scan (Scan the World), cut into three pieces that join with printed pins so it fits on a small printer.

The femur is the longest and strongest bone in the body. Use the full-size model to look at the ball of the hip joint, the shaft and the knee end, and to measure and compare with students' own legs.

Printing and using it

  1. Print the three parts and the pins; supports help with the rounded ends.
  2. Join the parts with the pins and a little glue.
  3. Students find the hip joint and the knee end, and estimate a person's height from the femur's length (about a quarter of body height).
