Single-Tooth Involute Gears
- PLA
- Intermediate
- High school
About this print
Three gears that each have only one tooth: heart-shaped involute plates stacked three high, 120 degrees apart, so one plate is always in contact. The two outer gears turn in opposite directions.
A surprising model for older students on gear tooth shape (the involute curve) and continuous contact.

Printing and using it
- Print the "printable" file and assemble.
- Turn one gear slowly and watch which plate is in contact.
- Ask: why would a single plate stop meshing?
