About
What is the Combinatorics Visualizer?
The Combinatorics Tree Diagram Visualizer is an interactive educational tool designed to demystify complex counting principles. It dynamically generates comprehensive tree diagrams based on custom inputs—like flipping a coin, rolling a die, or selecting colors. By mapping out every possible branching path, the application provides a tangible, visual representation of probability spaces, permutations, and combinations.
Mathematical Perspectives
This module focuses on the fundamental counting principle, probability spaces, and the critical differences between combinations and permutations.
With vs. Without Replacement
By toggling the Repetition switch, students can instantly observe how a sample space changes when items are replaced versus when they are not. This physically alters the tree's structure, providing a clear visual proof of why permutation formulas change based on replacement rules.
The Fundamental Counting Principle
The visual tree seamlessly maps the multiplication of choices at each depth. Opening the Table View consolidates this massive tree into a comprehensive list of all possible outcomes, bridging the gap between graphical pathing and raw numerical data.
Combinations vs. Permutations
Activating the Highlight Similar feature color-codes and groups branches that result in the exact same items (regardless of their order). This is a powerful, instant visual demonstration of the difference between a Permutation (where order matters) and a Combination (where order does not matter).
