About
What is the Galton Board?
The Galton Board is an enclosed, high-performance physics simulator designed to illustrate the Law of Large Numbers and the Central Limit Theorem. By dropping hundreds of virtual balls through a triangular array of circular pegs, students can watch chaos resolve into order as the balls naturally bounce and stack into a perfect Binomial Distribution.
Mathematical Applications
This simulator is heavily utilized in probability and statistics classes to visualize abstract mathematical theory in a dynamic way.
The Central Limit Theorem
Demonstrate how entirely random, independent events (a ball bouncing 50/50 left or right on a peg) culminate in a highly predictable macro-pattern. By toggling the "Live Bell Curve", students can see the exact mathematical expected distribution superimposed over the physical, simulated distribution in real-time.
Pascal's Triangle & Binomials
Adjust the "Peg Rows" slider to alter the structure of the board. Teachers can explain how each peg row corresponds to a layer of Pascal's Triangle, and how the final distribution of the bins physically represents the mathematical binomial coefficients for that specific row depth.
