About

What is MatrixColor Explorer?

MatrixColor Explorer is a powerful, interactive visualizer that bridges the gap between abstract Linear
Algebra and tangible Computer Graphics. It allows students to directly manipulate $n \times n$ matrices of
data and instantly see how those numerical values translate into visual pixel structures, colors, and
brightness.

STEM connections

This module perfectly demonstrates how mathematics powers modern technology, engineering, and digital arts.

Mathematics: Linear Algebra

Students manipulate matrices as fundamental data structures. The tool actively computes the
algebraic Determinant |A| of the user's generated matrix in real-time. Students
also apply matrix-wide scalar operations (multiplication, subtraction) to see how algebraic
transformations map to geometric or visual results.

Technology: Computer Graphics & Arrays

Digital images are nothing more than stacked 2D arrays (matrices) storing values from 0-255. This
tool lifts the hood on how software stores, reads, and writes data. By switching to
Extract Mode, students simulate rendering pipelines and pixel-by-pixel quantization
algorithms.

Arts: Digital Design & Color Theory

Students act as digital artists, learning how distinct RGB (Red, Green, Blue) channels combine to
create millions of colors. They can "paint" directly into the matrix arrays to create pixel art, or
apply mathematical filters to real photos to create Sepia, Threshold (B&W), or inverted negative
art!
