About

What is Paper Fold?

Inspired by a captivating paper folding session led by Dr. Yeap Ban Har, Paper Fold is a highly interactive digital sandbox that brings physical mathematics to life. It provides a virtual workspace where students can repeatedly fold a sheet of paper and execute precise cuts. By transitioning this physical activity into a 3D simulation, learners can experiment without limits, visually exploring spatial geometry and exponential growth in a truly boundless environment.

STEM connections

This module embraces the core philosophy of STEAM education. It demonstrates how a single, simple activity can act as a bridge, unifying different perspectives and seemingly distinct subjects into one cohesive, engaging learning experience.

Mathematical Patterns

At its logical core, the simulation teaches students how to find mathematical patterns. By observing the layer count double with every step on the Target Folds slider, students tangibly visualize exponential scaling and sequence building.

Artistic Observation

Mathematics reveals its inherent visual beauty during the "Unfold & Reveal" phase. Students are no longer just doing math; they are observing stunning, symmetrical art patterns and intricate designs that emerge entirely from their calculated cuts.

Unified Perspectives

What begins as a rigid analytical exercise seamlessly transforms into an artistic endeavor. This activity highlights how different subjects—spatial reasoning, arithmetic logic, and creative art—become completely unified through the simple perspective of folding paper.
