About

What is Shape Transformation?

Shape Transformation is an interactive geometric sandbox that allows students to visually explore the four fundamental types of 2D transformations: Translation, Reflection, Rotation, and Enlargement (Scaling). By manipulating original shapes and modifying mathematical parameters on the fly, users can observe exactly how images map onto a Cartesian coordinate plane.

Mathematical Applications

This tool replaces static graph paper with a dynamic environment, making complex coordinate geometry intuitive.

Isometries (Rigid Transformations)
By exploring Translation, Reflection, and Rotation, students can visually prove that these operations are "isometries." The original shape (Cyan) and the transformed image (Pink) remain entirely congruent—the side lengths and internal angles are perfectly preserved, regardless of where they move on the grid.

Centers of Origin & Scaling
When using Rotation or Enlargement, students can physically drag the "Center" point across the grid. This demonstrates how mathematical transformations are strictly relative to an origin point. Turning on the "Arc Path" or "Enlargement Rays" visualizes the exact mathematical vectors used to compute the new coordinates.
