About

What is the Line Game?

The Line Game is an arcade-style educational tool designed to make graphing linear equations fun and intuitive. Players are tasked with connecting a "START" portal to a "TARGET" portal by manipulating the mathematical properties of a straight line. As they adjust the sliders, a dashed targeting laser shows their trajectory in real-time before they fire to test their math!

Using it in class

This game transforms the standard slope-intercept form (y = mx + c) from a dry memorization task into a dynamic, physics-based puzzle.

Understanding Slope (m)
By dragging the Cyan slider, students instantly see how changing the slope (m) affects the steepness and direction of the line. They learn to visually associate positive numbers with uphill trajectories, negative numbers with downhill trajectories, and zero with a perfectly flat horizontal line.

Understanding the Y-Intercept (c)
By dragging the Pink slider, students observe the y-intercept (c) in action. They quickly realize that altering this value does not change the angle of the line, but rather translates (shifts) the entire line vertically up or down the Cartesian coordinate plane.
